The delicious yet affordable meals at the Sherray Bar and Bistro reflect the inspiration and talent of the Club’s locally renowned head chef, Aubrey Fernando.

Using fresh produce sourced from the Yarra Valley and surrounds, Aubrey brings a touch of Europe and southern Asia to the menu at the Maroondah Sports Club. From rogan josh to pasta to parmigiana, Aubrey and his staff create consistently scrumptious, generous meals that delight both the palate and the pocket!

Aubrey has more than 25 years experience in kitchens across the globe. His career began in five star hotels in his native Sri Lanka, where he completed his traineeship under the direction of various international chefs.

Guided by Swiss, French, German and American chefs during these early years, Aubrey’s menus at the Sherray Bar and Bistro reflect his international expertise.

Aubrey has been cooking in Australia for 20 years, and prior to joining the Sherray Bar and Bistro he headed up some of eastern Melbourne’s most well known kitchens.

Seafood is one of Aubrey’s specialties. Lobster thermidor and snapper mornay are often featured on the Bistro’s specials menu. His other signature dishes include mouth watering prawn and scallop thermidor, honey-mustard chicken and prawns and Tuscan veal scaloppine. Aubrey also produces quality desserts including his famous sticky date pudding. Delicious!

So fine are Aubrey’s culinary skills that several customers have followed him to the Maroondah Sports Club just so they can continue to experience his wonderful food.
